Don’t let the flu catch you!

After experiencing one of Australia’s worse flu seasons last year, we would hate for that to happen again!

Here are 5 tips to reduce your risk of catching or (if you have already caught it) spreading the flu this season.

1. Hands Clean
You are most likely to touch your eyes, mouth or nose with your hands. This is a common way for germs and viruses to spread. Reduce the risk by regularly washing your hands with soap and water or disinfect with alcohol-base hand rub.

2. Kill it before it Spreads
Surfaces and objects can be contaminated by germs and viruses. Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces to reduce risk of contracting the flu virus.

3. Catch it, Don’t Spread it
Flu viruses can be spread through droplets made when an infected person coughs, sneezes and talks. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough and bin it immediately. Remember to wash your hands afterwards!

4. Keep your Distance
Some sacrifices are needed for the wellbeing of all. Don’t stay too close to those who are sick and limit contact with others while you are sick.

5. A little help from a Probiotic
Your gut makes up about 70% of your immune system and can play an important role in fighting harmful bacteria and viruses. Probiotics can help maintain a balanced digestive system. Research suggests that probiotics may be able to reduce the risk of contracting upper respiratory tract infections (eg. common cold) or reduce its duration.

Drinking one bottle of Yakult a day, at any time of the day, is an effective way to maintain a balance of good bacteria in the digestive system.

We hope you and your family stay well and escape the flu this coming winter!
