Dos and Don’ts with Yakult

Yakult is a refreshing probiotic milk drink. However, to get the most out of this healthy drink, it’s essential to know how to store, handle, and incorporate it into your daily routine. Here’s a guide on the dos and don’ts when having Yakult, along with some recipe ideas to inspire you.

Dos

  1. Keep it Refrigerated

Yakult contains milk and live probiotics, which require cold storage (below 4°C) to maintain their quality and effectiveness.1 Always store your Yakult in the fridge to preserve its freshness and ensure the live Lacticaseibacillus paracasei Shirota strain (LcS) stay active.

  1. Shake Before Drinking

You may notice some sediment at the bottom of your Yakult bottle. These are milk sediment, and it is completely normal! Be sure to give it a good shake before drinking.

  1. Enjoy a Bottle Daily

To experience the full benefits of Yakult, it’s recommended to drink one bottle per day. For noticeable health benefits, it’s best to enjoy it consistently for 2–4 weeks. The live probiotics work best when consumed regularly, helping to promote gut health.2&3

Don’ts

  1. Don’t Freeze It

Although it might be tempting to freeze Yakult to enjoy it as a cool treat, freezing can damage the bottle and cause the Yakult to leak out! Hence, it is best to not freeze Yakult.

  1. Don’t Heat It Up

Heating Yakult can destroy the live bacteria. LcS survives in cool environments, and any exposure to heat is likely to kill them off.4

  1. Don’t Leave Yakult Out

Yakult is designed as a single-serve beverage, meant to be consumed immediately after opening. Leaving it out on the table for too long or frequently opening and closing the lid increases the risk of spoilage, which can impact its quality and taste. To enjoy the full benefits of its live, beneficial bacteria, be sure to drink Yakult right away. This ensures it stays fresh and safe for consumption!
