Thirty years ago, the first bottles of Yakult were produced at our facility in Dandenong South, Victoria. This factory, built in 1993, remains the centre of Yakult in Australia, serving as a hub of innovation and quality. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re excited to introduce our special edition packaging to commemorate this significant milestone. In 1994, Yakult made its debut in Australia, introducing Aussies to the benefits of probiotics. We were the first English-speaking country to produce and stock Yakult. Since then, it has become a household name, appreciated for its taste and digestive health benefits. Dr. Minoru Shirota, the pioneer behind Yakult, developed the unique strain of beneficial bacteria, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei Shirota strain, which supports a healthy digestive system.
Our product range has evolved to meet the diverse needs of our consumers. In 2001, Yakult launches its 10-pack nationally across Australia. In 2004, we introduced Yakult LIGHT, catering to those looking for a low-sugar option. Both the Original and LIGHT versions are available in convenient 5-packs, and the Original 10-pack has become a popular family choice.
In 2020, during the lockdown, our sales team demonstrated incredible dedication by continuing to work tirelessly to restock shops and ensure that our products remained available to customers.
